How I started to draw graffiti. Starting-out is usually difficult. This is why I want to explain how I made it happen . My first Graffiti was “Limp Bizkit” through the album cover from “Significant other”. Do you know it? I loved this rock band whilst still being love em and decided to attract it as it impressed me. I was lucky and was quite satisfied with my first drawing.

So this can be my first task for you is: 1. get a pencil 2. have a sheet of paper 3. receive an eraser 4. find a Graffiti that suits you with Google Image Search, where you can easily identify the letters. For Instance “simple style Graffiti” could possibly be used as a key word . 5. and draw it!

Maybe you will need a number of tries in the beginning . This is nothing to worry about . Noone is really a professional right away . So practice, practice, practice, practice! I know your family will enjoy it!

How to attract graffiti: a graffiti piece in 7 steps : You have redrawn your first Graffiti? You have created a Tag? Nice! So let’s move ahead !. Graffiti Pieces are very complex. To start , I would recommend one to take your tag and transform it in to a Graffiti Piece. Every Graffiti Piece is made up of the next parts: 1. The Fill-In: colored areas 2. the outline: colored or black line across the fill-ins 3. a 3D-shadow 4. an identification 5. a second outline around the whole piece 6. optionally: the tag name from the sprayer 7. optionally: highlights 8. optionally: 4 seasons of creation.

I use these materials: 1. regular sheet of paper – e.g.: printing paper 2. soft uncolored eraser 3. pencil with 2B mine hardness 4. Fine Liners for Highlights and small areas 5. Copic Markers Multiliner 0.5 for outlines 6. At least a basis pair of Copic Ciao markers for Fill-ins. I have the important list of Copic Ciao markers markers!. So, let’s dive straight to it:

In the first part I will mention how I started and provide a primary hint how to begin out. The second part is really a tutorial, that`s separated into two parts. The first part contains the steps for a first Graffiti Tag. The second you are about transforming the Graffiti Tag into a Graffiti Piece. Let’s go!

STEP 1: Trace your graffiti tag. If you used a marker you`ll probably predict the Graffiti Tag in case you put a notepad into it . So your first task would it be to follow the sides with the lines with a pencil. But leave a bit of space between your edge of the marker as well as your new pencil line. So the letter gets bigger. The result need to look just like the image shown below. Not that bad actually, but we would like to improve.

STEP 2: Improve the graffiti. The form in the whole Graffiti is very important too . The “E” at the beginning is greater than the “R” in the end . So I thought we would ensure it is smaller and add arrows on both sides to help it become a concise form.(red) I also added serifs or made them more complicated .(blue circles). In typography, a serif could be the small extra stroke bought at the finish from the main vertical and horizontal strokes of some letters. In Graffiti it`s easy to use them to allow you to Piece more complex . I also added forms which improve the dynamic of the graffiti and allow it to be more complicated.

The result looks just like the image below. This step usually implies a great deal of trials and errors and takes a little while . So don’t be sad in the event the Graffiti immediately doesn`t appear to be you need to . Even in case you are practised to draw Graffiti, this step will take some time and intensive use in the eraser.

STEP 3: Redraw the lines with a fineliner. The next step is easier . Take your Copic Markers Multiliner 0.5 or perhaps a Fineliner pen and redraw your pencil lines. Wait a while afterwards permit the color dry and after that erase each of the pencil lines. The result may need to look this way.

A cheap printer with copy function like Canon PIXMA MG3620 or perhaps a similar product have to do the project . I use a previous version with this printer series and delay pills work well but there are lots of others which work quite similar.

STEP 4: Color your graffiti piece. To make the coloring more complex , I recommend you to definitely always draw gradients. In this case i colored the whole Graffiti Piece in a single big gradient. If you would like to help make your piece to take a look even more complex , you will have to give a different gradient to each and every letter. The Copic Ciao markers have become beneficial to drawing gradients. I have not achieved it with another marker yet.

Which color scheme to select ? In general I recommend you to use complementary colors for – foreground and background – or – fill-ins and shadows. If you want to use more colors, you need to use colors through the color shade of 1 with the 2 colors or near to them on the colour wheel. You can also just look for a Graffiti in our blog or on Google Image search and copy large scheme. If you are a beginner, this method might fit well.

STEP 5: Drawing the shadows Choose a point below the Graffiti where all of the shadow blocks cause . Like shown inside photo below. Now choose how big is the blocks ought to be . I took 1,5cm (1/2 inches) as length in this instance .

Now have a ruler and draw from every corner with the Graffiti a single .5cm (1/2 inches) long line for the chosen point. Then, connect the lines parallel for the Graffiti outline. The results are blocks, which you`ll want to fill with color.

Fill the Blocks with black. If you want more technical shadows you can contribute fake light spots with brighter areas in the middle transitioning to dark areas about the outside like done within the example.

STEP 6: Second outline and background The term “Second outline” describes the line round the whole Graffiti. In this case I choose the complementary color to orange – blue. As experience I added bubbles and drips within the same color.

STEP 7: Optionally add highlights, your name-tag and the year of creation The gradient as Fill-In maybe is too boring or seems not complex enough. So you can additional add lines and shapes over the Fill-In. Common shapes are bubbles, rectangles, arrows, refelections or outlines of shapes. Usually they`re colored in a darker color shade of the color below of them . They can even be added to the background.

To complete your artwork, add your Name-Tag and 4 seasons of creation. If you are or will be a an affiliate a crew, then include the abbreviation of your crew.

Draw a tag. After you have done the first Graffiti, check out our Collection of Graffiti Letters. Think about a name you want to use being a sprayer. No ideas yet? Just start together with your real name! I provide several designs per letter. You can search for letters by clicking on the buttons on top . Create the first Graffiti Tag in this way . So detail by detail : 1. obtain a marker on this occasion ; not a pencil; Tags look a lot better the use of the best marker – I used a Edding 500 Marker for the example Tag below. The Grog Cutter 08 XFP – Death Black is often a very good marker too and more cost effective . 2. get a piece of paper 3. Go to our assortment of Graffiti Letters 4. Search for the letters to your name Example. I choose the saying “Ether”. 5. You can optionally add drips, arrows and big serifs as highlights for your Tag like I did.
